Enoch movie review by Oris Daniels

Enoch

This movie is serious hardwork I can't even imagine how the cast and crew were able to excute this huge project, from the props to the casting, to the locations, to the dialogue, to the character analysis, to the equipments used, to the time spent on getting it right, everything about Enoch is hardddd. Its not your regular project at all, this movie is hardwork put together.

Enoch is a biopic, a film based on the true life story of the Redeemed Christian Church of God's General overseer Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.

The film was produced by two film ministries, the Mountzion faith ministries headed by Evang Mike and Gloria Bamiloye and the Solid Rock foundation ministries headed by Pastor Oluwakemi Cyprian Sodeinde. The film was written by Damilola Mike Bamiloye and Directed by Damilola Mike Bamiloye and Evang John Oguntuase, the set man of the 2nd Touch Productions Nigeria.

According to Joshua Mike Bamiloye the first draft of Enoch was completed in 2022, and when edited and put together it was over four hours long. Enoch was aimed to be a limited series but was adjusted and corrected by Pastor EA Adeboye who watched the movie three different times, in other to achieve a better level of historic accuracy.

The pre production and planning of Enoch took over two years and three months while production took about two and half months.

There were a total of 70 crew members and 300 casts on the set of Enoch. The movie was shot in three different locations Ileha, Modakeke, and Ile Ife Osun state Nigeria.

Enoch has three chapters CHAPTER ONE MAA KAWE tells the story of teenage Adejare and how his passion for academics got his parents to enroll him at the Ilesha Grammer school.

CHAPTER TWO A BOY WITHOUT SHOES; this chapter tells the story of how Enoch faces challenges, now he is admitted into Ilesha grammar school, but he is faced with financial challenges couldn't afford a pair of shoes, loses his father to the cold hands of death and is left to sponsor himself through school.

Thanks to Mr Canon Akinyemi the school's principal for helping Enoch achieve his educational ambition by presenting him a memorandum of understanding which helped him complete his education to pay after completion.

CHAPTER THREE MEETING FOLUKE

This chapter tells the story of how Enoch meets Foluke his wife, to their marriage and then to their challenges as a couple and it ended with how Enoch met his father in the lord The late Pa Josiah Akindayomi and how Enoch's ministry started till date.

Enoch is a huge project it is not your regular film where you just jump on set and begin shooting, no doubt Enoch was well shot and put together this is evident in all points of the film.

I want to seriously commend the producers Mountzion Faith Ministries and The Solid Rock foundation for putting this together its a big risk that not anybody not all film ministries can take on, I want to commend the writer Damilola Mike Bamiloye for being able to write this. its not easy writing a movie as this, because you have to go back in time down to the 40s wow.

The research alone is enough work, not to talk of the investigations, the people you have to interview, down to the books you have to read, the questions you will have to ask many people from generation to generation hmmmm its a great task. Every scene will have to be written with serious caution Kudos to Damilola Mike Bamiloye for being able to write this down its no child's play at all.

I want to also commend the Producer Evang John Oguntuase for a great job well done. Producing a normal film can be very very hectic, not to talk of producing a 40s, 50s 60s down to the 80s movie, its not easy. Kudos Sir I can understand what it took you, it really took a lot.

I want to commed the casts starting with the lead, Pastor Abolaji Adeola that was a brilliant performance sir. From what I saw, I know you did your research and character analysis well. I saw you changed your voice and walking steps at some point to suit the role of Enoch. Its not easy having to act out someone who is still alive, its a huge task. I can understand what you went through on set and preparing for this role, I guess this should be your most challenging role.

Tomiwa Samson Grace who was the female lead was outstanding too, I loved the way she was comfortable with the role, one would hardly tell that she was only acting, she was so relaxed, free and there was no tension in her at all. She made me forget I was watching a film, and from her acting I think she also made it easier for Abolaji Adeola (Enoch) to play his role well, its nice to always have a good co actor. the both had great Chemistry together, kudos ma.

Evang Mike Bamiloye played Paa Akindayomi so well his acting was exceptional. From what i saw He also studied the character very very well.

The casting of this movie was superb.

I also want to commend the two Young Enoch's, Enoch 1 played by Ojo Ayomide Emmanuel and Enoch 2 Played by Adedeji Adekunle they did a great job with their roles. There was consistency in the behavior of the three Enoch's, I saw it sustained from Enoch one to Enoch three.

Mrs Olaleye Olumuyiwa did a brilliant job as Mama Adejare, she soaked herself into the role so deep that it was hard for me to think she was only acting, her crying was real, she played the role of a concerned mother and she did justice to it Kudos mommy

Kudos to Victor Adu for a wonderful research for this project without research this project can't work. Kudos to the editors, Ruth Adepoju, Festus Dairo, and Francis Dairo for nicely editing this movie, its not easy editing a film set in the 40s, 50s, 60s down to the 80s film, you need special training for it and they did justice to it.

Kudos to the DOP Damilola Mike Bamiloye and the camera operators Sewedo Wusa, Tobi Olumuyiwa, and Wale Fabunmi the camera works were beautiful.

I also celebrate the lights men Kehinde Olowolafe, Blessed Adebayo, and Tomiwa Olanrewaju the lightings beautified the scenes especially the interiors.

The colorist also did an amazing job

Kudos to the makeup artists Bayo Effect, Dare Norman, and Adebayo Adekunle. These are a very crucial set of people for a project like this. if you know what i mean. The make up artist can either make or mar a film like this, but in this case these make up artists did great. This kind of movie is heavily dependent on the make up artists and I don't think the director made a bad choice these make up artist did a great job.

A big well done to Joshua Mike Bamiloye, Evang Mike Bamiloye and Taiwo Ibidapo for a great theme song wow, I can't wait for Dide to drop. I really enjoyed the sound tracks, the music and sound effects were just too lovely to listen to. Watching each scene one can tell that Jaymikee was intentional about the sound effects that every scene should carry and the sounds suited the scenes well.

Kudos to the hairstylist Ajibade Dorcas she did a great job on the casts to help depict the 50s and 60s

Bobade Samuel and Oyelakin Kayode did a great job with the set of the film going back in time isn't easy at all.

I loved a drone shots taken by Ifeoluwa Oluwatise they were very beautiful to watch

The backup singers for the sound tracks and sound effects did great, kudos to Jesulayin Eniola, Francis Dairo, Testimony Adegbite and Ezekiel Babatunde for backing up wonderfully.

Getting those olden days cars and lorry that are still working isn't easy and I must commend the team for going that far for this project, its a huge sacrifice.

The line director, Evang Isaac Femi Akintunde did a great job, he made me spend half of the time learning Yoruba in the film. The dialect supervisor Clement O Oladimeji also did great they made me fall in love with the Yoruba dialect

Yomi Odusina, Joba Anderson and Sampam Adebanjo did great with the sound.

Evang Bamitale Oluwabumi did great with the Ijesha dialect translation. Ajibare Abioye, Olaoluwa Michael, Testimony Adegbite, Victor Otegbade, Ruth Adepoju and Francis Dairo did great with the subtitles

The costumes were well selected for each characters having made my own personal research and compared the costumes with how the real life characters look like I can tell that Nike Owah, Ajibade Dorcas, Ajayi Justina, Adekunle Adedeji, Enenmoh Mofoluwaso, Awoyinka Busayo, Oyinwola Elizabeth, and Olawoore Stephen did a great job with selecting the costumes of Enoch project.

I loved the fact that the film still had comic reliefs and they were well placed. Evang Kayode Babalola had a waka pass role but that his scene was very important I loved the part he said and Enoch walked with God and he was psssssttttt lol 😂 I laughed hard.

Even though i can't really fault a true life story I still have a couple of observations though

Firstly in one of the scenes where Enoch was conversing with his friends he says I'm appauled by your indiscretion, this presents Enoch as a well spoken and eloquent young man who speaks unusual Big big grammar most of the time but unfortunately this happens only in that scene for all other scenes Enoch speaks like every other person.

Secondly almost all the ladies including Foluke had their eye brows too carved out as though it was done by a professional modern day make up artist. This should have been toned down since the film is set in the the 50s, 60s and 80s when eyebrows of ladies where not always that carved out but just combed or brushed.

Thirdly the first line where Mr Canon Akinyemi the schools Principal of Ilesha grammer School was introducing himself to the students the voice didnt really tally, I guess someone else voiced the beginning part where he said my name is Mr Canon Akinyemi then Victor Olukoju took over at some point.

I feel Enoch should have arrived Ilesha Grammar school not yet grown, still little in size the way he left the village, then grown with time probably two scenes should show him in the school as little Adejare before he grows abit to Enoch 2. because the mathematics teacher just getting to know him at the point when he had already grown a little to Enoch 2, and also the principal introducing himself at that point made it look like that was the time Enoch came to the school for the first time, meanwhile Enoch came as little Adejare and has probably been in the school for quite some time already.

I also felt like Some vocabularies used by some casts where not so appropriate for the 50s, 60s 70s and 80s communication style. Though just some few.

I also feel the movie would have shown more about the financial challenges of the Adeboye's, from Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboyes messages he usually says his family was so poor that even the poor called them poor. I didnt see enough of that in Enoch movie, all that was depicted was an average family not doing so badly except for the shoes Enoch didnt have, and the fees he couldn't pay and this was even because his dad had passed, the family (the Adeboye's) in the village fed well, clothed well and were very happy people.

When you hear Pastor Adeboye narrate that part of the story where he took the goat to the native doctor, he always says the goat was so stubborn that it gave him tough time before he was able to pull it to the native doctors house, but in Enoch movie the goat didnt move with so much difficulty as told about what actually happened in real life.

I also felt Evang Kayode Babalola's beards should have been shaved off to help depict the 60s better.

There was a little inconsistency with the coloring of the scene where Enoch met Foluke.

There was also a little continuity issue with Pa Akindayomi's beards, tribal marks, and whitish eyebrows.

Some subtitles were missing for some Yoruba speaking parts and at some point as a nonspeaking yoruba boy I wasn't able to follow.

Some of the casts should have also spoke a certain way with Queen's English to help depict their roles better.

In all Enoch was a great project. I can only write how I feel things should have been done based on my own personal feelings, but In all projects the writer and director have their reasons for doing things the way they did, as its their concept and not mine, also I do not know how the message was received by the writer from the author of the story in person of our Father in the Lord Pastor EA Adeboye so I might be very very wrong still.

God bless the entire cast and crew
