Orientation Of Nigerian Leaders Contributing To Nigeria’s Problem, CAC Cleric

Pastor G.O. Babatunde

The newly inducted District Superintendent of Christ Apostolic Church, Testimony District, Ebutte-Meta, Lagos, Pastor George Olubunmi Babatunde, has called for re-orientation of Nigerian leaders, adding that the selfishness of their aspiration for political positions has contributed to the problems of Nigeria.

Babatunde made this call at the inauguration of CAC Testimony District and his induction as the pioneer superintendent, describing current leaders of the country as self-centered and not ready to serve.

He acknowledged that leadership at every level is challenging, while also expressing his dissatisfaction with the state of the country, adding that, “I believe the problem with Nigerians is that, the orientation of politicians in seeking power is not about the desire to service. That is why when somebody wins an election, the next thing is to go for thanksgiving and throw a party; and people begin to congratulate him/her.”

The cleric, who is the former co-ordinator of CAC Youth Fellowship Akinyele Region, stated that contestants for political offices these days are individuals of questionable character who do not have good track records.

“When it comes to the issue of governance, they come like people who have no conscience and who disregard people. One of them said that public institutions are not helping matters and that immediately they get into office, some banks are after them to grant them credit of millions of naira. Some of them easily compromise the standard. That is why instead of having leadership for service, we are having leadership for selfishness and self-aggrandizement. Some of them did all manner of things to get there,” he explained.

Proffering solutions to the leadership menace, the cleric stated that citizens should look out for personalities who are full of ideas and positive visions to move the country forward.

Babatunde also advised politicians to emulate the leadership style and pattern of Jesus, who he described as the perfect example of a good leader, which portrays leadership by service.
